Multi-wavelength near-infrared light source using heterojunction 2D GaAs photonic crystal waveguide with InAs quantum dots

Abstract(in English) Multi-wavelength NIR light source has been used in various application fields such as optical communication and biological/medical imaging. Further downsizing the NIR light source is expected to bring advancements of these technologies such as reduction of energy consumption and high resolution imaging. We have proposed such an ultra-small light source using 2D GaAs photonic crystal waveguide (PC-WG) and self-assembled InAs quantum dot (QDs). The proposed light source consists of heterojunction multiple PC-WGs (Ht-PC-WG) including InAs QDs with varied structural parameter as slow light region shifts sequentially. An enhanced spontaneous emission from embedded InAs QDs at slow light region in each PC-WG mode due to the Purcell effect can propagate to a coupled mode in the next PC-WG mode, and multiple enhanced emissions can be extracted from an exit port. In this work, we fabricated and characterized the Ht-PC-WG to demonstrate the feasibility of the concept.
