A Study on Channel Estimation for Time-Division Duplex Distributed Antenna Cooperative Transmission

Abstract(in English) We have been studying a distributed antenna cooperative transmission as a promising technique for realizing the 5th generation (5G) high-speed mobile communications. Channel state information (CSI) is required at both transmitting and receiving sides for the distributed antenna cooperative transmission. In the case of frequency division duplex (FDD), the CSI obtained at the receiving side needs to be fed back to the transmitting side. However, in the case of time division duplex (TDD), by exploiting the channel reciprocity property, the macro-cell base station (MBS) and the user equipment (UE) conduct the channel estimation independently to obtain the CSI, resulting in no CSI feedback. It is predicted that the receiving side may have to report its received signal quality back to the transmitting side. In this paper, we introduce a new TDD frame structure, in which a known pilot signal is transmitted before the transmission of data, and the pilot signal design. The channel estimation error and bit error rate (BER) performances of distributed antenna cooperative transmission are evaluated by computer simulation.
