Abstract(in English) | In this paper, we study a two-step beam search method for a beamforming in Millimeter-wave and evaluate this method on experimental test. The fifth-generation mobile communication systems require more high-capacity and high throughput. Millimeter-wave communications are considered as a candidate to respond to the request. We have studied a space division multiple access with millimeter-wave beamforming and try to increase the capacity by controlling the directionality using high-gain narrow beams. In a space division multiple access using narrow beams, high precision beam search method is needed because a slight error of the estimated direction causes serious performance degradation. A conventional beam search method uses a large number of beams to enhance the precision, which results in the reduction of throughput. Therefore, two-step beam search methods in which a beam width changes at each step have been studied. In this paper, we evaluate the optimal number of beams in the case of multi users and indicate that the total beams are reduced when the precision at first step is higher and the number of beams at second step is fewer. The simulation results show that the optimal number of beams in which the performance is equal to that of one-step method is reduced by 45% of one-step method. Moreover, we make sure that the two-step beam search method is effective through actual equipment test and show the distribution of the direction estimation of the test is almost same as that of the expected value. |
