Abstract(in English) The space division multiplexing transmission based on multi-core fiber and few-mode fiber (FMF) has been currently attracting a lot of interest and studied to deal with the capacity limit of conventional single mode fiber networks. FMF-based transmission system is complicated by mode-dependent loss. Therefore, it is important for FMF-based transmission to evaluate each LP mode loss. In this paper, we propose the method for estimating each LP mode loss in few-mode fiber with impulse response measurement technique for measuring power ratio of each LP mode. This method does not depend on the mode extinction ratio in the mode excitation device. We first reveal the applicability and repeatability of this proposed method with 2LP mode fiber. We next investigate this method using 4LP mode fiber for evaluating applicability of this method in higher order mode.
