Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease caused by articular cartilage degeneration and destruction. MRI is used as one of the diagnostic methods for OA. While MRI, under 1.5 T, is widely used, there is no correlating analysis imaging system. Here, we tried to develop an image analysis program by viewing the chondrocyte area of a rat knee joint using 1.0 T MRI images. Images of healthy and OA knee joint chondrocyte with 1.0 T MRI showed sharper quality using proton density-weighted spin echo method. Image analysis by OpenCV program could view the cartilage area of the knee joint as a white signal strength with the help of MRI images. In addition, the signal strengths for the OA knee joint were lower as compared with that of the normal knee joint cartilage. This analysis could take into account both absolute evaluation of chondrocyte regions and comparative validation white and black balance, chondrocyte and non-chondrocyte regions. These results presented a possibility of diagnosis of OA knee joint cartilage in optimum conditions with 1.0 T MRI imaging, and the development of an inexpensive image analysis method. |
