Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A typical SDN technology, e.g., OpenFlow, achieved flow-based traffic control mechanism.Recently, SDN technologies aim to realize packet-based traffic control which reflects immediate network conditions such as congestion and requirements of applications instead of the per-flow mechanism. This paper proposes a SDN mechanism which utilizes ``textit{Virtual MAC address}''.The Virtual MAC address expresses the immediate network conditions and the per-packet routing policy. The Virtual MAC address overwrites source MAC address field in each data frame.Since the Virtual MAC address does not change any semantics of existing IP and ethernet formats, the Virtual MAC address keeps interoperability with the existing ethernet facilities. The Virtual MAC address is notified to routers in advance of being used. The routers which receives the notifications interpret the VMAC address and stores the interpretation.Since forwarding rule is concatenated to each data packet, the router can easily distinguish packets and immediately decide which forwarding rule is appropriate. This paper implemented the Virtual MAC address on a software router which runs on user space of Linux kernel. This paper confirmed the packet forwarding mechanism works correctly and measured the forwarding throughput of a flow.
