Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The first grand challenge showed the list of problems in PRMU in 2008. In the meantime, a lot of state of the art techniques including generic image recognition, deep neural net or low-cost real-time range finders has been proposed and computer vision and pattern recogntion becomes drastically popular technique used in our everyday life. However, we still have many fundamental problems that remain unsolved. To start the discussion regarding the next grand challenge, I will show several technical difficulties in my projects. The first is the sensing issue, namely, the solution about fast focusing and high-sensitive imaging systems that can take real-time focusing for eye corneal reflection of children. The second problem is the recognition of facial expression and emotion for specialized individuals. Although there are several techniques have been developed for recognizing facial expressions and human internal states, they are mainly applied for the ’majority’ of people. However, the recognition techniques for specialized skills or spetial situations has not solved. These examples include the evaluation of the figure skating or recognitions of the internal states of the children with developmental disorders and patients with dementia.―I 1will―discuss what are the problems and what kinds of ideas should be introduced to tackle these problems.
