Abstract(in English) | HetNet (heterogeneous network) is currently studied in 3GPP to meet with rapid increase of mobile traffic. HetNet is defined as a cell structure in which small cells are overlaid on a macro cell. If HetNet is applied to an urban area, “dense 3D cell structure” is formed in which small cells are densely placed in tall buildings. We proposed a new network control architecture called “layered cell control architecture”. The proposed architecture logically separates the base stations of macro cells and the base stations of small cells by using eICIC (enhanced inter-cell interference cancellation), and simplifies the base station coordination control. To optimize the dense 3D cell structure against the change of traffic demands in a day, we need SFN (system frame number) synchronization as well as time synchronization for the control of the cell structure with UTC (coordinated universal time). For this purpose, we propose “network-listening time synchronization method”, and conducted an experiment to evaluate the proposed method. |
