On common noise-induced synchronization in metronome

Abstract(in English) Synchronization is one of the important phenomena that can be observed in both biological and non-biological systems. Rhythms of the oscillators synchronize by mutual couplings or external common noise. A metronome is one of the oscillators that can exhibit synchronization due to mutual couplings. Although, noise-induced synchronization is studied theoretically and experimentally, noise-induced synchronization of mechanical metronomes is not investigated so far. In this report, we constructed an equation of motion of a metronome system and executed numerical simulation. We applied common noise with several intensities to two uncoupled metronomes. We investigated an effect of noise on the mechanical metronomes by calculating the frequency distribution of the phase differences between the metronomes. As a result, we found that common noise induces phase synchronization between the mechanical metronomes.
