An Encryption-then-Compression System Allowing the Use of Arbitrary Chroma Interpolation Methods for JPEG Compression

Abstract(in English) Conventional transmission systems of image contents are based on Compression-then-Encryption systems, where image encryption is performed after image compression. On the other hand, Encryption-then-Compression (ETC) systems, which can encrypt images before image compression, have been expected and studied for privacy protection. In the the existing ETC system with the JPEG standard, usable chroma interpolation methods are limited due to some distortion on decrypted images. In this paper, we propose an image decryption scheme for the ETC system with the JPEG standard, which allows to use of arbitrary interpolation methods. Simulation shows that it enables to use any chroma interpolation methods to the system by using the proposed decryption scheme.
