[Poster Presentation] Examination of applying Laguerre-Gaussian beams for optical wireless communication

Abstract(in English) Optical wireless communication has a lower cost and can be laid more readily than optical fiber communication, hence, it is expected to be used for last one mile in FTTH to as a mean supplement to optical fiber communication. For optical wireless communication, however, the fluctuations of received intensity caused by the changes in the refractive index of air (scintillation) is a serious problem because it cause the degradation of the communication quality. Recently, Laguerre-Gaussian (LG) beams have received attention due to their specific properties. LG beams have good propagation characteristics in a scattering medium, thus applying LG beams to optical wireless communication is expected to improve communication quality. However, for optical wireless communication, the suitable modes of LG beams and the suitable condition of the system are not clear yet. In this paper, we optimize the optical system applying LG beams as a carrier based on the simulation results of the scintillation changing the mode numbers of LG beams.
