Abstract(in English) | This paper proposes a reassociation control scheme in wireless local area networks (WLANs) based on the model for swapping indivisible resources in mechanism design theory. The remarkable idea is to improve communication quality of each station (STA) in such a way that STAs associated with different access points (APs) trade their APs. The notion of general preference in the mechanism design theory enables us to develop reassociation control scheme according to STAs' flexible preference over APs which arise from their demands for communication services, such as high-speed and low-latency. The proposed algorithm is based on Top Trading Cycles (TTC) algorithm and provides a unique allocation of APs to STAs with individual rationality and Pareto-optimality, which are desirable property in the mechanism design theory. Although TTC algorithm is generally applied to the case where every trader has an indivisible resource, the proposed algorithm is applicable to the case where multiple STAs are associated with each AP by applying TTC algorithm repeatedly, in which each AP selects a STA for each trade. The proposed algorithm is guaranteed to converge to a stable allocation through repetitive control of association relationship. Simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme keeps individual rationality, that the number of STAs which obtain better rate increases as the number of APs increases, and that the proposed scheme performs rate improvement with fairness. |
