Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Based on ethnographic fieldwork conducted on Ishigaki Island in Japan’s Okinawa Prefecture, this study examines ritual communication in a harvest festival. The study focuses on instances of discursive "discordance," defined as "an implicit conflict" or "a lack of agreement, harmony, and conformity," (Takekuro 2015) regarding how to keep traditions. I attempt to argue the efforts and “responsibility” (Hill and Irvine 1993, Solin and & ?stman 2016) of community members who struggle with an accelerating loss of regional identity.
