Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We consider a neuron as an information channel and investigate the effect of metabolic cost on the optimal information transmission by using a single-compartment Hodgkin$-$Huxley type neuronal model under the spike-rate coding scheme. We calculated the channel capacity and the efficiency that quantifies the reliable information transfer per metabolic energy by using information-theoretic techniques. The excitatory input improves the channel capacity of the neuron, whereas the inhibitory input improves the efficiency of the neuron.
