Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Reaching movements require the integration of targets and effectors for planning movements. Some studies suggested that the parietal activations occurred in the hemisphere contralateral to targets and effectors, respectively. Besides this contralateral relation, recent studies have suggested that left parietal area has a critical role in planning reaching movements. In this study, we analyzed the beta power changes during motor planning in a pre-cued reaching task, in which each task was indicated to subjects 2 s before the execution cue by giving a task cue telling a target and an effector to be performed. As a result, we observed that the beta power decreased in left parietal area when planning right hand movements, whereas in bilateral parietal area when planning left hand movements. These results suggest that the left parietal area was dominantly activated in the planning of reaching movements.
