Optimal VNF Placement Method Considering Rate of Change of Traffic and Dependencies of VNFs for Service Chaining

Abstract(in English) In service chaining, virtual network function (VNF) can be used effectively even if VNFs are placed flexibly over computer networks.By using the service chaining, packets are forwarded to an appropriate VNF in appropriate order.Thus, several kinds of network functions can be provided with each packet in a computer network.Here, the amount of traffic may change when packets are processed by a VNF depending on the type of VNF.As a result, it is expected that VNFs are placed over the computer network so that the amount of traffic in each link decreases.Moreover, there is a dependence among some VNFs in terms of the processing order.In this paper, we propose an optimal VNF placement method considering change rate of traffic and dependencies of VNFs for service chaining.In the proposed method, an optimization problem that minimizes the maximum amount of link traffic and the number of VNF instances is used to decide the placement of VNFs and the route of each service chain.In numerical examples we evaluate the performance of the proposed method for JPN model and show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
