Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this study, a walking support system for blind people has been investigated. Concretely, three ultrasonic sensors detect the direction and distance to an obstacle, and the user perceives the information by the presentation pattern of phosphene. The phosphene can be produced by electric stimulus to retina and the perceived position is depending on the electrode placement. In addition, the flicker speed of the phosphene can be controlled by the alternating current frequency. By controlling these two parameters and mapping them to the direction and distance to an obstacle, the position of the obstacle can be estimated by phosphene. In this paper, a method, which controls the perceived position and flicker speed of phosphene, will be proposed and the effectiveness of the proposed method will be discussed through the result of evaluation experiment.
