LLR generation of 4D modulation based on inverse code

Abstract(in English) Exponentially increasing internet traffic requires optimal exploitation of spectral resource of optical network. Therefore, coded modulation is attracting attention as a strong candidate for utilization of spectral resource by switching modulation format in adaptation to transmission condition and improving transmission reach. So far, we have proposed new 4D-modulation scheme, 4D-SP64-12QAM, which enables improvement of receiver sensitivity and simple demodulation process. The square constellation that is compatible with PM-16QAM simplifies the demodulation process considering a multi-format DSP. However, it has been pointed out that multi-dimensional modulation formats suffer from complex calculation process of log-likelihood ratio (LLR) which is indispensable for reliable transmission using soft-decision code. In this paper, we propose inverse code method that is applicable to any other coded modulation. We show that LLR of 4D-SP64-12QAM can be calculated with combination of low-dimensional look-up table and simple calculation based on inverse code.
