[Invited Talk] Future Optical Access Systems Using Burst-Mode Optical Amplifiers

Abstract(in English) Passive optical networks (PONs) utilizing time division multiplexing (TDM) technologies are widely utilized in current optical access systems. While the standardizations toward the realization of the next generation PONs were mainly focused on providing higher bandwidth, future optical network will demand more effective user accommodation in addition to meeting the demand for increased bandwidth. Application of long-reach PON is a promising solution to these demands, thus we have been developing burst-mode optical amplifiers for PON’s upstream burst signal transmission. In this paper, we report time and wavelength division multiplexed (TWDM)-PON and coherent PON systems using our burst-mode optical amplifiers.
