2D Imaging by Sparse Array Radar System

Abstract(in English) This paper presents some results of our research on 2D imaging by a linear sparse array radar system. By utilizing stepped-frequency continuous-wave (SFCW), 35mm range resolution is obtained. A topology designing method for linear sparse array is proposed to reduce the number of antenna elements and maintain the spatial sampling capability compared to a dense array. Under the guidance of the proposed designing method, the developed system can achieve 20mm cross-range resolution at 60cm with 8 pairs of transmitters and receivers. Effects of non-ideal factors including undesired time delay and direct coupling component are analyzed. Corresponding calibration procedures are also provided. The proposed sparse array and calibration methods are assessed by numerical simulations and experiments, through which the 2D imaging capability of our system has been demonstrated.
