Abstract(in English) | Since the FCC stated a policy on unlicensed use of the TV white-spaces (TVWS) in November 2008, a number of countries and regions have studied utilization of the TVWS. Also, some communication systems that utilize the TVWS have been globally discussed and standardized as international standards. IEEE 802.11af has been standardized in December 2013 as a communication system that uses the TVWS with the WLAN-based technology. Meanwhile, the IEEE 802.11af-based technologies are not yet applied for social installation, although it has been almost three years since the standardization. For the practical use of these technologies, there still have some difficulties in downsizing and power-saving. In particular, an integration of baseband (BB) signal processing circuits, which have been designed and developed with an FPGA in previous prototypes, is strongly required as well as conventional communication systems. In this paper, the authors have prototyped the world’s first BB IC based on the IEEE 802.11af system. Furthermore, the authors have also developed and characterized a card-type TVWS device with sufficiently small size and low power consumption towards practical use. |
