Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The aim of this study is to describe the transmission of Japanese honorifics from the referenced to the listener. The honorifics for referenced is the system of honorifics to adopt the honorific forms according to the topic or person which are referred to in the conversation. On the other hand, the honorific of listeners, which are popular among honorific styles, is a system to be polite to the listeners whom you are talking with. While Japanese honorific has ever historically kept the character as the honorifics for the referred, its change towards those of the listeners has been noticeable. This study illustrates the condition of both of the systems coexisting in the use of Japanese of today and tries to find the causes of these changes in the people’s minds.
