Abstract(in English) | For elucidating functional structures in the brain, physiological experiments in vitro with using brain slice preparations have been performed over decades. And, extracellular current stimulation applied through the microelectrode inserted in the tissue has been widely used to induce neural excitations in a target region. Besides, in recent years, such an electrical microstimulation have been considered as a means of controlling neural activities for neural prostheses, such as the cochlear implant and artificial vision. For the prosthesis applications, the electric stimuli that can induce neural excitations with as low current as possible would be desirable Most of previous studies on the neural responses induced by microstimulation have been made by using electrophysiological measurement techniques. Therefore in this study, we investigated the effects of some temporal parameters of the stimulus current pulses on the induced neural responses in mouse cerebral slices, by utilizing high-speed voltage-sensitive dye imaging technique. |
