Note on Data Aggregation on Smart Grid Communications Considering Fault Tolerance and Privacy

Abstract(in English) In smart grid communications it is important to aggregate users' usage data while preserving privacy. In this paper we propose a data aggregation protocol which can prevent from leakage of failure information of smart meters, based on DPAFT protocol, which was previously proposed as fault tolerant and differentially private data aggregation. The proposed protocol utilizes proxy servers settled in users' homes, to relay the communication between smart meters and a gateway. The proxy server monitors the status of the smart meter in the home, and transmits valid/invalid information as well as private power usage data in the encrypted form. The control center receives encrypted aggregated data of usage and valid/invalid information, and calculates average power usage in its responsible area. We analyze and discuss the security of the proposed protocol, in terms of several attacking models such as eavesdropping, malware and honest-but-curious model, as well as leakage of node failure information and operations on cyphertexts using the identical key.
