Single Limited-Magnitude Error Correcting Codes Using Integer Residue Ring of Large Order

Abstract(in English) Multilevel memories, which store multiple bit information within a memory cell, cause specific errors which mostly shift a state toward a neighboring state. Limited-magnitude (LM) error correcting codes are proposed as classes of codeswhich reflect the error characteristics. That is, they limit their correction capability into errors to neighboring states. However, information length of conventional single LM error correcting codes is smaller than Hamming codeswhen $s$, the number of states in a memory cell, is relatively small compared with error magnitude. In this paper, a class of single LM error correcting codes defined by a check matrix over $Z_q$ is proposed, where $q > s$. Information length of the codes is larger than conventional LM error correcting codes and Hamming codes.
