Restriction of Motion of Break Arcs Being Magnetically Blown-out by Side Surface of Metal Plates

抄録(和) Silver contacts are separated at constant speed and break arcs are generated in the DC supply voltage 200V-450V and resistive load circuit of the circuit current 10A in the air. Transverse magnetic field of a permanent magnet is applied to the break arcs. Iron, copper or aluminum plate is fixed on the top of the contact gap. The gap between the plate and the contacts h is changed to 1, 2 and 3mm. The experiments without the plate are also carried out. The supply voltage is changed from 200V to 450V. The following results are shown. When h is 3mm, the maximum arc height with the plates is lower than that without the plates. The arc duration with the iron plate is longer than that without the plate. When h is 1mm, the arc duration with the copper or aluminum plate is longer than that without the plates.
