Abstract(in English) | To investigate how spatial frequency (SF) information is carried by the neuronal population of each column in the primary visual cortex (V1), we simultaneously measured SF tunings of the neuronal population across six layers using a multi-site electrode array. We characterized the SF tuning dynamics for each layer by comparing the tuning dynamics between nearby neurons. Neurons showing temporal change of optimal SF were most frequently found in layer 5. In layer 5, nearby neurons tended to show different SF tuning time courses so that their optimal SFs are common for the short response latency but they become diverse as the latency increases. Nearby neurons in other layers did not show such tendency. The present results indicate that roles of neurons within a column on SF processing become diverse as response time increases. |
