Context Aware Platform for Distributed Surveillance System

Abstract(in English) Surveillance systems play very crucial role in ensuringsafety and security in environments of interests such as airports, stations, hospitals, streets etc. With the advancement in thesurveillance technology, systems can automatically analyze thesurveillance videos, detect threats and generate various alarms toinform the concerned authority for further actions. However, withthe increase in the intelligence of the surveillance applications andresolution of surveillance cameras, more computing resourcesare required. Furthermore, current surveillance systems are notefficient at dealing with dynamic situations such as major events, festivals, games where security concern are growing exponentially. In this paper, we summarize some of the challenges faced incurrent surveillance systems as well as discuss the opportunitiesto deal with those challenges. We address these challenges byproposing a context aware platform for distributed surveillancesystems, where we leverage advancements in other technologyareas to improve the efficiency of the surveillance systems andreduce associated costs. Context aware platform facilitate efficientsharing of resources among distributed locations to benefit fromspatio-temporal variability of surveillance workload, thereforeensure the detection of important events in real time.
