Gait Identification Using Arm Acceleration Data with SVM Classification

Abstract(in English) Gait parameters like stride length and foot clearance are important for fall prevention. We have been developing a system to identify gait patterns based on stride length and foot clearance by acceleration sensors mounted in the Smartphone on an arm. In this paper, we experiment whether Support Vector Machine using three-axis accelerations as feature values can identify three gait patterns. (Three gait patterns are "Normal", "High step", "Long step".) The result showed that this method can identify three gait patterns of some subjects.
