Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been shown that the eye-pupil size is modulated by emotional events. This mechanism is mediated by the autonomic nervous system: Pupil dilation is associated with the dominant activities of the sympathetic nervous system, whereas pupil constriction is associated with the activities of the parasympathetic nervous system. The present study attempted to build an integrated system for measuring the eye-pupil diameter via webcam. The system consisted of three components, these are, 1) projecting of an infrared light-emitting diode, 2) recording of the eye pupil, and 3) detecting/analyzing the pupil diameter. We utilized this system and showed a possible detectability of the participants’ pupil diameter in our experiment, proposing an “inexpensive” device for measuring the eye-pupil size via webcam.
