Background task scheduling in Android OS aiming at batch data communication for energy efficiency

Abstract(in English) Most of smartphone application that a user uses have the background processing task carried out during inactive periods. For example, SNS application periodical communicates servers, fitness application periodical check sensor or do something.AlarmManager manages these periodical processing tasks (I call it Alarm as follows) in AndroidOS. After Ver.4.4, because it reduces energy consumption, AlarmManager added new mechanism divided Alarm by meeting interval time as possible and run those batch.However, conventional Alarm management is not considered communication processing in energy, thereby running communication processing each time and increasing energy consumption.Therefore, in this study, we propose that new Alarm management considering communication processing in energy that classify Alarm occurring from each application as communication processing or no communication processing and divided by meeting interval time as possible and show the effectiveness by an experiment.
