Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Millimeter-wave (mmWave) based wireless local area networks has attracted attention due to the high capacity. Since the range of mmWave communication is short due to large propagation loss, to deploy multiple access points (AP) is required to enhance mmWave WLAN coverage. However, due to cost limitation, a network operator should consider optimal placement of a limited number of APs. For optimal deployment, human blockage and overhead of beamforming should be considered. In mmWave communications, when a user blocks a line of sight path between the AP and a station, RSSI decreases sharply. Moreover, as increasing users, the number of frames exchanged for beamforming increases. Therefore, the number of users in an area highly affects on mmWave throughput. We show that total throughput of mmWave system is improved by deploying mmWave access points in places where the total expected throughput is maximized compared to the station density based deployment scheme. This paper models an expected throughput as a metric for AP deployment, which considers human blockage and beamforming overhead, and discusses AP deployment which maximizes total expected throughput. Our simulation results show that the deployment based on the expected throughput increases total system throughput.
