Abstract(in English) | This report aims at mobile video delivery over multiple transmission paths, which consist of wireless communication and visible light communication (VLC). Since VLC is highly directional, each mobile device can use different number of transmission paths for video delivery and experience different quality of VLC paths based on the position. In addition, the quality of each VLC path is unpredictable at a sender because VLC is one-way communication, i.e., no feedback. In this paper, we propose a video transmission scheme to accept the differences of number of transmission paths, and quality of VLC paths between mobile devices. To this end, our proposed scheme jointly exploits discrete wavelet transform (DWT), digital video compression, and pseudo-analog transmission. DWT can transform video frames into low and high quality ones. Low quality frames are compressed by digital video compression and transmitted over a wireless communication path to guarantee smooth playback between all mobile devices. On the other, high quality frames are directly mapped to luminance of an light emitting diode (LED) and transmitted over a VLC path to enhance quality of video frames received from wireless communication. Evaluations show that our proposed scheme gracefully improve video quality of mobile devices, which can use both of wireless communication and VLC paths, according to the improvement of VLC path’s quality. |
