Abstract(in English) | TDOA (Time Difference of Arrival) localization estimates a target position from arrival time differences of radio signals by detecting the radio signals in a number of ground receiver stations. It is desired for air traffic control surveillance system to provide aircraft surveillance with high performance (accuracy and update rate) compared with conventional radar. WAM (Wide Area Multilateration) using TDOA localization is able to achieve the high performance and has been implemented in many countries. In WAM, receiver stations are generally collocated as surrounding the target coverage, since position error increase rapidly outside the collocation. However this collocation method brings a challenge as increasing a number of receiver stations according to the coverage expansion. On the other hand, TSOA (Time Sum of Arrival) localization estimates a target position using times from a pulse signal transmission in a transmitter station to the reflection signal arrivals in a number of receiver stations. It is expected for TSOA localization to mitigate position error, because TSOA has additional information as a signal transmission time compared with TDOA. This paper describes calculation methods for TDOA and TSOA localization, firstly. Next, comparisons of position accuracy by each localization method are indicated as evaluation results in a real operational environment using a WAM experimental system. |
