Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We can localize a sound position with both ears (sound localization ability). It is known the characteristics between a sound source and ears as head-related transfer functions (HRTFs). The sound localization can be realized with HRTFs empirically. In addition, the sound localization precision will be increased when we localize a sound with head movement. It may be said that not only HRTFs but also dynamic cues from head movement are an important in sound localization. The sound localization process with dynamic cue is called as ‘active listening process.’ Recently, active listening process is actively being investigated. In sense of vision, input stimulus are suppressed in saccadic movement of eyes (saccadic suppression). On the analogy of the saccadic suppression, auditory stimulus may be suppressed in active listening process. Therefore, we investigated the change of detection threshold of pure tone in the active sound localization. From one of five loudspeakers, a band-limited white noise was emitted to a listener. She/he was asked to localize the sound with/without head movement. Another loudspeaker was set directly above listener’s head. From the top loudspeaker, a pure tone (1 kHz/ 500 Hz) was radiated. The listener was also asked to judge the existence of the pure tone. The detection threshold was estimated from the collected answers by drawing accumulated normal distribution. From the results, we found the detection threshold in 500 Hz was 1-1.5 dB increased when listener localized a sound with head movement. It may suggest sound stimulus in active listening is suppressed.
