[Encouragement Talk] Medium Access Control Scheme for WLAN with Long Propagation Delay

Abstract(in English) In the radio over fiber (RoF) wireless local area networks (WLANs), there are long propagation delay between access points (APs) and stations (STAs).The delay increases frame collisions and decreases throughput of RoF WLANs employing the conventional CSMA/CA protocol.In particular, when a legacy WLAN coexists with the RoF WLAN, the delay causes serious throughput degradation and unfairness between RoF WLANs and legacy WLANs.To solve these problems, we proposed a MAC scheme for RoF WLANs coexisting with legacy WLANs, where an RoF AP transmits its frame in advance in consideration of delay so that the frame achieves STAs a SIFS period after ACK transmission. To adjust transmission frequency adaptively enables a RoF WLAN and a conventional WLAN to share wireless channel fairly.Simulation results show that the proposed scheme increases the TCP throughput in RoF WLANs to the same level as conventional WLANs.
