Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This report discusses the power line radar cross section (RCS) characteristics of the helicopter obstacle detection small transmitting power 76 GHz millimeter-wave radar system. The purpose of the on-board radar is to detect and avoid obstacles such as high-voltage power lines and towers that may affect flight safety. To improve the power line detection characteristics of the radar system, the power line RCS characteristics using the circular polarization antenna are measured inside the anechoic chamber. Firstly, the radar scope of the high-voltage power lines is obtained at the field experiments to clarify the typical reflection characteristics using the linear polarized antenna. Then, the RCS measurement set-up using the 76 GHz millimeter-wave radar system and two-types of the power lines are shown. The measured RCS values of power lines using the circular polarization antenna show the combined RCS values of the each liner polarization. This means the reflection angle dependencies at a single linear polarization can be reduced by using the circular polarization antenna.
