Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In a dental setting, hygienists often ask patients of their subjective symptoms, and report them to the dentist. However, when the dentist is treating another patient or preparing for the treatment, the hygienist may not immediately report the symptoms to the dentist. Then, the hygienist attends the “availability” of the dentist, and tries to design a conversational occasion, in which a speaker’s utterance is expectedly received by a hearer. In this paper, we illustrate how such conversational occasions are formulated, and discuss the dynamic process of constructing participation framework.
