Abstract(in English) Mode-division multiplexing (MDM) transmission technique using a few-mode fiber (FMF) is attractive for increasing the transmission capacity in a single fiber. Recently, the MDM transmission experiments with a mode multiplicity over 10 have been reported. In such MDM transmission experiments using FMFs, the mode coupling is compensated by multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) signal processing at the receiver side. In this paper, we review several approaches for reduction of MIMO complexity. In addition, we show the feasibility study for reduction of MIMO complexity by weakly-coupled FMF transmission technique. A seven-mode multiplexed transmission experiment over 81 km weakly-coupled FMF just using 2x2 or 4x4 MIMO with up to 240 taps has been demonstrated.
