Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This study investigated the effects of hierarchical relationship on responses to other’s self-enhancing presentation in everyday conversation. We analyzed receivers’ verbal responses, reasons of them and feeling for other’s self-enhancing presentation. The results were as follows. First, most of the participants who communicated with a superior in the scenario praised him or her and the reasons were keeping relationship with the partner. Secondly, most of the participants who communicated with a coworker also praised him or her. However, they took a no interest in keeping relationship with the partner. These results suggested that the superior’s self-enhancing presentation promoted receivers’ motivation of ingratiation and the coworker’s self-enhancing presentation decreased receivers’ motivation of keeping relationship.
