Electro-active tuning of terahertz metasurface utilizing conducting polymer polypyrrole as a linear actuator

Abstract(in English) We have developed electrically-tunable terahertz (THz) metamaterial utilizing heavily-doped polypyrrole films as linear actuators. Electro-active tuning of resonant responses were realized by shifting relative position of stacked two sprit-ring resonator arrays. Heavily-doped polypyrrole thin film was obtained by electrochemical polymerization at low temperature and used as linear actuators because their volume can be changed by desorption and adsorption of water molecules in air by applying voltages. THz transmission of the device was evaluated by THz time-domain spectroscopy. We have successfully obtained shift of transmission band by applying a few Volts. Our findings may open the way for the development of novel THz active devices utilizing soft actuators.
