Output RF Power Enhancement by Optical Pulse Compression in Photonic-Based RF Generation

Abstract(in English) Microwave and millimeter-wave generation based on photonic technology is promising for many applications. In this technique, RF output power is limited by the maximum optical power to the photo detector. In this manuscript, we propose to use optical pulse compression in order to enhance the output power. We make a numerical simulation of optical pulse compression in an optical fiber and obtain the generated RF power in order to confirm the RF power enhancement. Furthermore, we experimentally confirm that the RF power is enhanced by the use of shorter optical pulse and/or pulse compression using optical fiber.
