Abstract(in English) | Generally, SIer(System Integrator)s and NIer(Network Integrator)s build a WAN(wide area network) as a solution of LAN-to-LAN(local area network) connection services on wide area connection services provided by network carriers and network equipment (e.g. routers) which connects the carrier network with customer’s LANs. In this case, the carrier network which is a part of the WAN is unmanaged by them, and so it is impossible for them to acquire various statistics and status information of the network devices in the carrier network. Therefore failures on the carrier network will be monitored in such a way whether dummy packets sent by the equipment are discarded or not passing through it, but on failure where customer can recognize the delay of application response, the dummy packet may not be discarded and the monitor may not detect the failure. So, by using statistics information of each router surrounding the carrier network, we consider whether it is possible to detect the packet discard in the carrier network. As a result of the consideration, under certain traffic conditions, we show it is possible to detect synchronization of traffic statistics counters of each router, and calculate the count of discarded packets which occurred for a period between two times when the synchronization detected. |
