A Study of Employment of Error Correcting Codes for the Watermarking Scheme Considering the Characteristic of Noise

Abstract(in English) Among many watermarking schemes, the DCT-OFDM-based scheme retains high robustness against various kinds of attacks. There are two methods in the DCT-OFDM-based scheme. One is the spread spectrum (SS) method and the other is the QIM(quantization index modulation) method. The noise caused by attacks can be modeled as AWGN(additive white Gaussian noise) in the SS method while it is modeled as BSC(binary symmetric channel) in the QIM method. When an error correcting code is introduced for the improvement of robustness, the soft-decision decoding algorithm can be employed in the SS method. On the other hand, the hard-decision decoding algorithm must be used in the QIM method because of its watermark extracting method. In this paper, we consider the characteristics of the embedding and extracting methods, and evaluate the error correcting capability under the constraints such that the degradation of watermarked image is equal. Through the experiments, we reveal the dependency of digital content on the performance.
