Study of the Snow Quantity Estimation Using ALOS Data

Abstract(in English) Measuring the quantity of snow is important for water system monitoring. As the method of the snow quantity grasp, remote sensing is expected, which can observe a wide area quickly and is not influenced by weather and day and night. Among them, Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) can acquire information of scatterer by the different polarize wave channel. In this paper, four component decomposition is used for the analysis. Comparing the ALOS data image, the color of the classified image varies according to having snow or not. This is because the scattering process changes by a change of snow and the vegetation. Accordingly, relationship of the classification parameters, radar cross section, and the quantity of snow is investigated by analyzing the time series data of ALOS.
