Heartbeat Detection Using Viterbi Algorithm with Doppler Radar

Abstract(in English) Non-contact heartbeat detection using Doppler radar has been studied in many works. The R-R intervals that represents the peak-to-peak intervals of heartbeats gradually vary, however, the R-R intervals are almost equal within a short period. We previously proposed the algorithm of heartbeat detection using Viterbi algorithm. We detect some periods in which the R-R intervals are almost equal. Then, we detect heartbeats that appear at the almost equal intervals within the detected period. We used a metric as the difference between the average R-R interval and the detected R-R interval for Viterbi algorithm. In this report, we derive the metric as the square of the difference between the average R-R interval and the detected R-R interval based on the distribution of the difference between the average R-R interval and the individual R-R interval. We detect the R-R intervals by using the derived metric for Viterbi algorithm. Experimental results show that RMSEs (root mean square error) of R-R intervals are improved compared with our conventional method.
