Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) There are times when an anxiety drives us to make an effort to achieve our goal and times when it may also harm our daily life. Previous studies have investigated neural substrates of anxiety by inspecting neural activities during a specific task or resting state. However, common neural substrates between task and resting state remain unclear. Here, to investigate “universal” neural substrates of anxiety by data driven procedures, we obtained human subjects’ neural activities by using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) during subjects saw both of anxious and neutral stimuli. We identified neural markers consisting of patterns of functional connectivity which serve to distinguish anxious states from neutral states. Further, we tried to predict individual’s daily anxiousness by applying the neural markers to the external resting-state fMRI. We show that our whole-brain anxiousness neural marker not only detect the anxious state during task, but also generalized to resting-state.
