Field evaluation of network access authentication time over wireless multihop networks

Abstract(in English) We evaluated two network access authentication methods over wireless multihop sensor networks on an actual field. One method is centralized authentication that a base station performs mutual authentication with a joining node. The other one is decentralized authentication that a joined node performs mutual authentication with a joining node. We measured build-up time of network for the two methods using fifty 920MHz wireless units. The results showed that the decentralized authentication method reduced the build-up time by about 30% compared to the centralized one.
