Abstract(in English) When a disaster happens, to search for survivors, rescue workers need to get into the burning and collapsing building. To prevent the secondary disaster, it is essential to localize them, however, even if anchor nodes can receive the wirelesssignals from a target node located somewhere in the building, received signal strength (RSS)-based localization has a greatdifficulty. It is because the RSS attenuates due to not only distance but also obstacles such as walls and doors, which dependson the internal architectural structure. In this paper, we propose an RSS-based localization method using unmanned aerialvehicles(UAVs). By transceiving wireless signals among UAVs flying outdoors around a building, they first estimate the attenuationdistribution which is called “the attenuation map” by means of compressed sensing-based wireless tomography. Then, the UAVs localize a target node using the RSS transmitted from it according to the estimated attenuation map. We evaluate theperformance of the joint attenuation map estimation/localization method by an experiment conducted in an anechoic chamber.
