Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) This paper proposes a directional block transform, called directional discrete cosine transform (DDCT). Conventional directional transforms, such as curvelet and contourlet, can provide sparse image representations thatcontribute high quality image analysis and restoration. However, they are not hardware-friendly algorithms forpractical computation, since they typically require high computational cost, large amount of memory usage, andglobal memory access. Our directional block transform constructed from the discrete cosine transform (DCT) formsa Parseval block-wise frame and the supports of frame elements are identical or disjoint. In experiments, we evaluatethe proposed method with conventional directional block transforms in image recovery by a convex optimizationand show its effectiveness.
